Our History

When James and Jeanette Statser first bought the property near the corner of San Elijo and Chesterfield, they had some ideas for a small hotel.  Before beginning their plans, they took a 25th Anniverasry trip to Great Britain and stayed at a different bed and breakfast inn nearly every night.  By the time they returned to Cardiff, they decided that they would create a lodge based on these bed and breakfast experiences.  James Statser designed and built the lodge while Jeanette decorated the rooms, each with their own flare.

The lodge is popular with families and business travelers along with couples looking for a romantic getaway. The breakfast terrace garden in the front and the roof top garden on the third floor provide a comfortable atmosphere for everyone.

Cardiff by the Sea Lodge has been featured in publications such as the L.A. Times, the North County Entertainer, the Yellow Brick Road, and the North County Times, just to name a few.  Cardiff by the Sea Lodge also has won the award for the “Best Bed and Breakfast Coastal” in the Entertainer many times.  Also, it was named one of the ”Best Places to Kiss in  San Diego” and featured in “Romantic San Diego.”  Along with these publications and awards, Cardiff by the Sea Lodge has been a prize on Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune!
